Lynchburg, Va., to host citywide inauguration celebration

Lynchburg Inauguration Celebration Planned

On January 20, The Diversity Events Action Group of the citywide dialogue on race and racism, “Many Voices-One Community,” is inviting Lynchburg area citizens to join together to celebrate the historic inauguration of President-Elect Barack Obama by watching the televised events between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM and writing down their personal reflections.

There will be formal venues for watching the televised events and recording reflections: The Depot Grill, Waterfalls Fine Dining, Starlight Café, Daily Bread, the Public Library on Memorial Avenue, the Downtown and Jamerson YMCAs,  and the following Recreation Centers: Templeton Senior, College Hill, Daniels Hill, Diamond Hill, Jefferson Park, Yoder and Miller. Students in Lynchburg City Schools will also be given an opportunity to watch and reflect on these events as a part of the city celebration.

Individuals and groups in homes, offices, colleges, hospitals or other locations can watch the events and download and print the personal reflection forms by going to the citywide dialogue website, www.manyvoicesonecommunity.com. The reflection forms will be collected and displayed in the Public Library on Memorial Ave. and then sent to the White House with best wishes from Lynchburg area citizens to the new President. Completed forms may be dropped off at the Public Library by January 26.

The mission of the Diversity Events Action Group is “to offer opportunities for the Lynchburg area community to engage in experiences which explore and celebrate our cultural diversities.” Future events are being planned to fulfill this mission.
