Seattle-area Climate Dialogues to kick off

Take part in climate dialogues

Many of us are aware that global warming is the most serious problem facing our planet. Major steps must be taken right now if we are to be able to hold global warming to the manageable low end and avoid a major tipping point. Our national government has been woefully negligent in addressing this issue.

"It's obvious now that only citizen participation on a large scale is going to make bold climate action politically possible. But will we do it in time? You can join us in getting this started." So says Phil Mitchell director of the Greater Seattle Climate Dialogues, "a grassroots, science-based process that aims to bring the whole community into this crucial conversation."

The Climate Dialogues is a movement of concerned citizens committed to fostering solutions to global climate change. Discussions are guided by the "Citizens Climate Briefing," a document developed with top climate scientists from the University of Washington and available online at www.climatedialogues.org. The purpose is to become informed and connected, to explore solutions and choices, and to influence local and national policy with a Citizens Climate Summit.

Climate Dialogues study circles have already begun here in Port Townsend, and many more are planned. These lively dialogues take place in three two-hour sessions. Two new ones are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13 at 1540 Admiralty Ave. and 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 1726 Franklin St.
