How is your community “Making Every Voice Matter”?

Is your community talking the talk, then walking the walk? Make a video to show Everyday Democracy (formerly the Study Circles Resource Center) what you've done to create positive change in your community. We're especially interested in seeing how you engaged all kinds of people to talk and take action on an issue facing your community. You not only have the chance to tell your community's story and produce a great video, but you can also win $1,000! So, grab a camera and start filming today!

Here’s how to enter:

  1. Create a YouTube account and learn the basics of creating a short video. Also, check out the transcript of a discussion on our DemocracySpace.org blog about how to create online videos and make the best use of them. Whatever you do, be creative and have fun!
  2. Make a short video (5 minutes maximum, but we recommend 3 minutes) showing us how your dialogue-to-change effort made every voice matter in creating change on a public issue.
  3. Submit your video through You Tube as a VIDEO COMMENT to the Making Every Voice Matter Video Contest at www.youtube.com/everydaydemocracy. And, in 100 words or less, tell us what your video is about in the comments box.

Criteria & Prize

The winner will be selected by Everyday Democracy and announced on the organization’s website and You Tube. The winning film, as well as the second and third runners up, will be shown on Everyday Democracy’s website and at the organization's Making Every Voice Matter national conference on June 13. The winning filmmaker will receive a check for $1,000 from Everyday Democracy. We reserve the right to remove from the contest videos that contain defamatory or obscene content or that invade the privacy of third parties or that contain racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable content.

Eligibility

  1. The Making Every Voice Matter video contest is open only to individuals who are residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia.
  2. Employees and relatives of Everyday Democracy are not eligible to participate in the contest.
  3. Both individual and group submissions are allowed, however group submissions must have a main point of contact.
  4. All contestants must submit their first and last name, organization, street address, city/state/zip code, daytime phone number and email address, plus a 100-word description of their video to .
  5. The winner will be contacted on May 12 and announced on this website on May 13.

By submitting your video to Everyday Democracy, you grant us distribution rights for non-profit use. You also agree to allow Everyday Democracy to use your name, or your organization's name to promote or publicize your video in any manner, without limitation, and without compensation.
