Jon Abercrombie
Jon’s experience in community building and facilitation includes leading planning and visioning retreats for nonprofit and for profit organizations. He also does leadership development and facilitation for lower-income urban neighborhoods.
He has facilitated training and planning for a wide range of state, county and city governmental groups and has also worked with a range of international and community-based nonprofit organizations.
He developed a grass-roots community-building course for Oglethorpe University and for the School of City Planning at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He also facilitates a statewide course on affordable housing for elected municipal officials in Georgia with the Department of Community Affairs.
Jon initiated and led the Decatur Round Tables, a series of small- group sessions intended to build community and civic involvement. A citywide strategic planning process based on the outcomes and led by many of the citizens from the first Round Tables followed these citizen dialogue groups. He also recently led the City of Decatur schools in a similar dialogue, involving more than 400 people. He trains facilitators and leads community-wide conversations for citizen engagement across the country on subjects that include racial equity, public education, neighborhood redevelopment and community planning.
He has an odd undergraduate degree in Ancient Greek and Masters in Counseling and Sociology from Georgia State University and The University of Memphis.
