Schools need all kinds of support from the community, and the community needs educated citizens. Today, schools face a number of challenges, including improving achievement for all students. Across the country, many students of color and lower-income students read at lower levels, score lower on standardized tests, and finish high school less frequently than white students and wealthier students.

Community members and schools need to work together to make education in their community all that it can be. Study circles can help people build the trusting relationships necessary for long-term change. People from diverse backgrounds and experiences develop trust, understand each other's experiences, and work together on solutions.

Read four profiles of study circle programs making a difference on education in their communities.
