I had a moment of obligation in August 2006 to break my silence of teen dating abuse and to do something more to help prevent this social disease before it starts and break the cycle before it is too late. As a result, Purple Ribbon Council was formed as a way to engage communities and people not traditionally vested in domestic abuse advocacy in large-scale, grassoots education, awareness and prevention. Purple Ribbon Council bridges the gap between existing and much-needed tertiary prevention (after harm has occurred responses) and primary prevention (before it starts). We do this by engaging everyday people in dialogue and action. Our "It's Okay to Talk About It" Study Circles Guide is just one of many ways we do this.
