“The Treasure Room” clothing store in Stanford, Montana was opened in February in a small building on Main Street. Store owner Sandee Hungate says she credits the Horizons program for providing her with the leadership tools and the confidence in herself to pursue a new business venture.
Sandee has always been a community-minded individual. As the former administrator of the Department of Public Health and Human Services, she was involved in working with a variety of low-income residents across the community. Her kids attended the Stanford School and she has been an active participant in numerous community organizations throughout the years. She was an active participant in Study Circles, and attended all of the LeadershipPlenty training sessions. She says that the Horizons program with beginning her thought process about looking for a way to provide the community with an additional resource that was not currently available. She thought a clothing store would be a valuable asset to the town of Stanford and the surrounding area, since people usually have to travel over 45 miles to purchase clothing. Sandee says that she has reflected on the training provided in LeadershipPlenty numerous times since opening her business and often applies the skills and techniques in her daily life.
Currently the store carries clothing ranging in size from premie infant clothes to 3X adult sizes in men and women’s. They also have items such as towels and housewares, and plan to carry seasonal items like graduation gifts and holiday gift ideas. The store is currently open on Fridays and Saturdays. She is planning to have store hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the summer months.
